Generative AI Policy
Generative AI Policy
Generative artificial intelligence technologies are entering widespread use for the creation of text and images. On this page, you will find guidance on the usage of these technologies for EJRSME authors and reviewers. To develop these policies, we drew upon guidelines advanced by the American Psychological Association (https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/resources/publishing-tips/policy-generative-ai) as well as academic publishers such as Elsevier (https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies-and-standards/generative-ai-policies-for-journals).
Authors
Below are specific policies governing the usage and disclosure of generative AI technologies. If authors fail to comply with these policies, the editorial team reserves the right to reject a submission, retract a published article, and/or prohibit an author from future submissions.
- AI cannot be named as an author on any article submitted to EJRSME.
- During the writing process of a manuscript, generative AI technologies should only be used to improve the readability, language, and formatting of the work. Using any technology for these purposes requires careful oversight and human review. Authors are not required to disclose the usage of technologies used for these purposes.
- If a generative AI technology has been used during the writing process in ways that go beyond those described above, has been used in other parts of the research process (e.g., during data analysis), or has been used to generative figures or other visuals, those usages must be disclosed. Disclosure guidelines and procedures are as follows:
- The disclosure should be included as a separate file alongside the submitted main text of the manuscript.
- The disclosure should specifically describe when and how the generative AI technology was used in the work. For instance, if a generative AI model has been used to draft (i.e., create) a portion of an article, the disclosure should specify how and where it was used, and how much it was used.
- Disclosure does not guarantee that submission will be considered for publication in the journal. The editorial team will review all disclosures and determine on a case-by-case basis whether we wish to proceed with the submission.
- Authors are responsible for the accuracy of any information in their article. Regardless of the source, the inclusion of any false or inaccurate information in a submitted article (including references) will be regarded as academic misconduct.
Reviewers
Reviewers must not upload any portions of any submitted manuscript to a generative AI system. Doing so may infringe upon the authors’ intellectual property. When preparing their review, peer reviewers may use technologies to edit their own written review to improve readability, language, or formatting. Using any technology for these purposes requires careful oversight and human review. Reviewers are responsible for the accuracy of the content in their reviews.
